Vail, Colorado was founded as a ski resort in 1962, incorporated as a town in 1966. Situated in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains at 8,150ft. Vail, Colorado, is a small town at the base of Vail Mountain, home of the massive Vail Ski Resort. One of the many Colorado ski resorts to get its start from the U.S. Army’s WWII 10th Mountain Division. European mountaineers were brought over to train U.S. Troops in how to navigate and survive in mountainous terrain. This preparation was vital to winning WWII.
